Summertime Safety Products Checklist

The heat is on! Before you head outside with the kids make sure you have the essentials to keep them safe while playing and swimming in summer heat. Whether they’re making a splash in the backyard or enjoying the outdoors out on the lake, we have your summertime safety products to help ensure everyone stays safe while having fun.

When the temps outside start rising, it’s important to take precautionary measures so that you and your family can all enjoy the summer festivities with minimal risks. Dress accordingly and wear protective clothing/accessories and be sure the kids (and the adults) are staying well hydrated. Here are some products you may want to stock up on before going outside.

Sun Safety Products

BurnOut SPF 30+ Kids

Adventure BanZ Baby Sunglasses

Sun Protective Baby Suit
bathing suitWhile two-piece baby bikinis look super cute on a baby girl, it offers NO protection from the sun. If you’re the type that often forgets the sunscreen or plan to spend the day at the beach or a water park this bathing suit blocks out over 98% of radiation from the sun. This particular baby suit features a zipper opening for easy diaper changes. In the pool or the ocean this suit stands up above the rest with a highly resistant material to chlorine and salt.

Swimways Baby Spring Float with Canopy

The removable canopy can be adjusted for overhead or at an angle to block out the sun and provide cooling shade for your baby while making a splash. This particular model features an activity center for different developmental stages. We loved ours for our daughter and with summer upon us we plan to use it again for our son this year. Recommended for babies 9 months to 2 years.

Summertime Safety Products for the Pool

Whether you have an in-ground or above-ground pool, keeping a close watchful eye on infants and toddlers is vital indoors as well as out. Supervision should always come first; these products will help minimize accidents and keeping little ones safer around the water.

Stearns Kids Puddle Jumper Life Jacket
Puddle JumperKeep kids safe in the pool with this Coast Guard approved life jacket. The durable construction of this life jacket provides stability in the water without compromising range of motion. This swim aid allows kids to confidently swim around the pool. Unlike water wings or standard floaties, these are not inflatable so they won’t bust.  It is designed for kids 30-50lbs.

Poolguard Pool Alarm
poolguardA pool alarm is designed to sound when it detects the surface breaking from something falling into the pool such as a child. This Poolguard alarm features an improved sensing technology to minimize false alarms from small objects that may fall in like sticks or leaves as well as factors such as the wind or rain. When you want to go for a dip, you simply remove the pool alarm and set it to sleep mode.

In-Ground Pool Safety Fence
pool fenceIt is recommended that in-ground pool owners have a fence around the pool to minimize the dangers of someone falling, especially when no one is supervising such as a neighbor’s wandering child. However, a regular fence that goes around the yard won’t protect your kids when they are near the pool. This 4ft. x 10ft. fence section goes around the actual pool to help prevent infants and toddlers, pets, and toys from falling into the pool. The material is climb-resistant so children can’t try to climb over it. It is also removable when you want to take it down such as for parties.

Mack’s Ear Plugs, Kids Size
ear plugsI originally bought these for washing my kids’ hair to prevent water from getting in their ears. After my daughter had 2 sets of tubes we had to use them at all times where water was involved. These are great for infants and toddlers during the summertime to prevent them from developing swimmer’s ear while having fun in the water. They easily mold to your child’s ear for a custom, secure fit.

These are just a few products to help keep your family safer while enjoying the summer fun outdoor activities. Remember ALWAYS supervise your children when they’re outdoors especially around water. No safety product should take the place of adult supervision.

If you have an above-ground pool remove the steps or ladder if possible to deter tots from trying to climb in. A door chime is also a great idea for doors that provide access to the pool area to alert you if your toddler opens it and tries and to venture out. For fun fishing trips or recreational canoeing on the lake, be sure you and your children have on coast-guard approved life vests. Reapply sunscreen often to protect delicate skin as well as insect repellent if you’re in an area prone to mosquitos and bugs. Most of all – have fun!
