Once you become a mom, you quickly find that your children will consume the vast majority of your time. Whether it’s feeding them, changing them, or bathing them, it seems as though there aren’t enough hours in the day to get every thing done. Dishes pile up, laundry multiplies faster than bunny rabbits, and who has time for dusting!? Well, we have some clever timesaver tips for you that will help you get the most of out of the hours you do have.

How To Effectively Manage Your Time

Being a busy parent can be stressful and it’s easy to become overwhelmed when you have a hundred things to do and not enough time to do it. These timesaver tips will help you to effectively manage your time so that you can free up extra minutes later for some quiet mommy time, or simply get to bed sooner!

Avoid Mindless Multi-Tasking
Attempting to do several things at once may seem like a good idea for saving time, however you end up stressing out even more and the job won’t be done thoroughly. If you tackle one task at a time in an efficient manner you can get it done quicker so that you can take on the next task. Try to prioritize what’s most important and focus on that one task then move on to the next.

Plan Ahead
Making the right preparations can help you save more time and stay well organized. Keep things like coats, scarves, gloves, and frequently worn shoes in an area near or around the door. Invest in functional storage bins or baskets that will allow quick access to them as you’re trying to get out the door without having to search frantically for matching shoes at the last minute. If your child attends daycare or you have one that goes to school, prepare bottles and/or lunch the night before so you can grab them and stick them in the bag when you’re ready to leave. Take clothes out and ready that you plan to dress them in so come morning you’ll have a few extra minutes to enjoy your coffee.

Cook In Bulk
You can often save money by buying things in bulk. Likewise, when you’re cooking meals make double to have extra for leftovers and freeze the rest for an easy fix on another night when you don’t have time to cook. You can also cook two different main dishes such as a baked casserole in the oven while you cook something else on the stove to have for another night to cut down on your cooking time.

Schedule Things Out
Along the same lines as cooking in bulk, another timesaving technique is meal planning. This involves planning out your meals for the week so you’ll know what you’re having on which days to avoid wasting 20 minutes deciding what you’re going to cook. This also works for cleaning your home. Certain things such as dishes and laundry may need to be done on a daily basis. For the bigger things, delegate specific days to do certain chores on such as cleaning the bathroom on Monday, mopping/vacuuming on Tuesday, dusting on Wednesday, etc. You may not have a completely spotless home what with toys lying around, but taking care of specific tasks on different days can ensure a clean home without trying to do it all in one day. If they’re old enough, encourage your child to do simple toddler chores in order to help you keep things well organized.

Scale Back
Only keep in your closet or drawers what you are actually going to wear. Throw out or donate any old clothes that you haven’t worn in ages, no longer fit, or have simply worn down. Switch out your clothes for the season by storing all of your winter attire away in the spring time. Same goes for shoes – if you haven’t worn them in over a year or they’re worn out, get rid of them. By de-cluttering your wardrobe you can pick out your outfit easily and faster rather than going through hangers full of unworn stuff. You can also plan out your outfit ahead of time for the next day as you pick out the children’s outfits. Spread them out or hang them up where you plan to get dressed (i.e. the bedroom or your bathroom).
